The main influx to Amateur radio came from CB operators in the mid s. Todays younger amateurs are unlikely to have ever used CB. My Experiences I stared out on CB but became disillusioned due the amount of idiots on it.
I bought a scanner and PMR sets in the intervening years before doing the Foundation course almost 3 years ago. Im currently an Intermediate Licence holder and hope to do the Advanced Licence this year.
Listening to CB today I can tell you that the Glasgow area seems to be full of druggies and wasters. Most of the decent CB have long since gone.
We can beat this crap if we work together and follow the guidelines! Take care of yourselves and each other.
You do not need a huge antenna outside, and, as its basically connecting through the internet, you do not need any kind of CB or Ham Radio license.
FRN is a great way for old 'breakers' to get back 'on the air' or new users to try out the world of radio communications without spending loads of money on expensive gear.
The software is free, and if you find you don't enjoy it, its easily un-installed. And as a bonus, you might just hear me on there!
Once installed, there is some minimal setup required, then your computer will work as a CB radio.
