It's sweet and sad with a story line that moves adroitly between different worlds with a terrific performance by the actress playing his daughter and carries the audience along with a pacing that flows smoothly to a conclusion that, while surprising when it happens, is nevertheless completely in keeping with the rest of the film.
I'm surprised that this film wasn't a bigger commercial success given how much better done it is than the vast majority of movies that get made, but perhaps it lacked the kind of punch or predictability that is needed to appeal to the mass market.
Or maybe it was the setting in Ireland and the difficulty people could have with the heavy accents I always have the subtitles on so it wasn't an issue for me.

It has a 6. This movie is better than average. Good movie. I agree, it isn't just a romantic love story, between the two main characters, it's also a love story of a Father's fierce love for his daughter.
The ending was very sweet. I'm not able to help but to wonder if Syracuse got custody of his daughter, Annie at the end. I hope he did.
I believe her Mother, Maura loved her, but she was a drunk. Very sweet movie! I enjoyed it completely - the endearing characters, the light humor, lots of natural beauty of the water and sky.
And the beauty of the actors made it nice to look at too. The quaint location and Irish dialect added to the charm, yet I could understand the dialogue, I suppose the actors didn't speak as fast as in real life.
Yes, it wasn't realistic, but the movie weaves together lovely elements: dream like magic powers, good luck, an enchanting song, wishes that may come true, kindness, goodness, the pure love of a child, and powerful love for a child.
All of it along side of dangerous secrets and human weakness - it all worked well to provide an enjoyable, memorable movie experience. I feel the theme is about hope, even when you are afraid to hope, most especially then.
